Wix adds schema markup automatically to Wix Stores product pages (Product), Wix Blog posts (BlogPosting), Bookings services (Course), Events (Event) and Portfolio projects, and adds LocalBusiness markup to your home page once you fill in your business name and address. To add your own, open the page's settings in the Editor, go to the Advanced SEO tab, click Structured data markup → + Add New Markup, paste your JSON-LD and click Apply. Each page takes up to five markups, each under 7,000 characters.

Then test it with Google's Rich Results Test. This guide shows what each Wix preset does in Google today, the exact paths in the Editor and the dashboard, a copy-ready LocalBusiness example, the limits that cause most errors, and which free tools to use to generate and validate schema on Wix.

Key takeaways

  • Wix generates JSON-LD for its own apps (Stores, Blog, Bookings, Events, Portfolio, Forum) and LocalBusiness for the home page from Settings → Business Info.
  • Custom markup goes in the page's Advanced SEO tab. Wix accepts JSON-LD only, up to 5 markups per page, under 7,000 characters each and 8,000 per page.
  • You can't add page-level custom markup to dynamic pages; edit the dynamic page type's SEO settings and use variables instead.
  • Validate with Google's Rich Results Test for Google features and the Schema Markup Validator for everything else.
  • Schema doesn't raise rankings by itself. It can earn rich results, and several types no longer show any. FAQ rich results ended on May 7, 2026.

What schema markup does on a Wix site

Schema markup, or structured data, is code that labels what a page contains (a product with a price, an event with a date, a business with an address) using the schema.org vocabulary. Wix writes it in JSON-LD, a block of code in the page's HTML that visitors never see.

Google uses it for two things: understanding the page and showing rich results, such as product prices and review stars, event dates or a business's details. It isn't a ranking boost. Google's John Mueller put it plainly in April 2025: "Structured data won't make your site rank better" (Search Engine Roundtable). The benefit comes from a richer listing that earns more clicks at the same position, which our guide on improving click-through rate covers in detail.

So the useful question for Wix owners is: which of my pages can still earn a rich result, and does Wix already handle it?

What Wix adds automatically, and what Google does with it

Wix's preset markups and its SEO hub's structured data guide list the automatic types. Here's how each maps to Google's current rich result types in October 2026:

Wix's automatic schema markup vs Google rich results (October 2026)

Wix presets from Wix's help center; rich result status from Google's Search gallery and documentation changelog.
Wix Stores product pagesProduct✓Price, availability and reviews must match the page; watch for duplicate Product markup from apps
Wix Blog postsBlogPosting (or NewsArticle, Article)✓Article markup helps Google read headline, images and dates; no special visual
Wix Events pagesEvent✓Dates, location and ticket info must be complete
Home page with Business Info filled inLocalBusiness✓Name, address and phone must match your Google Business Profile
Wix Forum postsForum post markup—Run a post through the Rich Results Test to see which type Wix outputs
Wix Bookings service pagesCourse✕Google retired Course info rich results in 2025; only Course list carousels remain
Wix Portfolio projectsImage markup—Image metadata badges need licence and creator details
Wix Site Search appSitelinks search box✕Google removed the sitelinks search box on November 21, 2024

Click a column header to sort.

Two things stand out. First, if you sell through Wix Stores, the most valuable markup (Product) is already on your product pages; your job is to keep prices, stock and reviews accurate. Second, a lot of older "add this schema to Wix" advice now points at features Google has dropped. Google phased out seven structured data features in 2025, including Course Info and Claim Review, removed the sitelinks search box in 2024, stopped showing HowTo results in 2023, and stopped showing FAQ rich results on May 7, 2026. FAQ markup is harmless, but it won't produce dropdowns any more.

How to add custom schema markup to a Wix page

Use custom markup for things Wix doesn't generate: an Organization with your logo and social profiles, a Service, a Recipe, a SoftwareApplication, a Person profile, or a richer LocalBusiness with opening hours.

  1. 1

    Write or generate the JSON-LD

    Start from a schema.org type and fill in only facts that appear on the page. A free generator such as Merkle's Schema Markup Generator builds the code from a form.
  2. 2

    Open the page settings

    In the Wix Editor, open the Pages panel, click the ⋯ next to the page and choose SEO basics. Switch to the Advanced SEO tab. In Wix Studio, open the page's SEO settings from the Pages panel and go to Advanced.
  3. 3

    Add the markup

    Click Structured data markup → + Add New Markup, give it a name you'll recognise (for example "LocalBusiness hours"), paste the code and click Apply.
  4. 4

    Publish

    Markup only goes live when you publish the site.
  5. 5

    Test it

    Click the ⋯ (Show More) icon next to the markup and choose Test on Google, or paste the live URL into Google's Rich Results Test.

You can also reach the same field from the dashboard: SEO & GEO → Tools and settings → SEO Settings → Main pages → Edit by Page, choose the page, then Advanced → Structured data markup.

Wix's limits, and the errors they cause

Wix's troubleshooting guide lists the rules that trip most people up:

  • JSON-LD only. Microdata or RDFa pasted into the field won't work.
  • One <script type="application/ld+json"> per markup block, one main type per block. Put a second type in a second markup.
  • Under 7,000 characters per block and 8,000 per page. Long product lists or big FAQ blocks hit this first. Trim descriptions or split the markup.
  • Up to five markups per page, including Wix's preset.
  • No HTML inside the JSON. A <strong> or <br> in a description fails validation.
  • Straight quotes only. Curly quotes (“ ”) from Google Docs or Word break the code. Write it in a plain-text editor.
  • No line breaks inside a field value. Keep each value on one line.
  • Static pages only. Page-level custom markup can't be added to dynamic pages.
  • Everything in the markup must be visible on the page. Google's rules, not Wix's: marking up reviews or prices that aren't shown can cost you the rich result.

Example: LocalBusiness markup for a Wix home page

Wix's automatic LocalBusiness markup uses your Business Info. If you want opening hours, a price range or your social profiles in it too, add a custom block like this one (about 800 characters with the script tag, well under the limit). Replace every value with your own details exactly as they appear on the page:

json
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Plumber",
  "name": "Example Plumbing Co.",
  "url": "https://www.example.com/",
  "logo": "https://www.example.com/logo.png",
  "image": "https://www.example.com/van.jpg",
  "telephone": "+44 113 496 0000",
  "priceRange": "££",
  "address": {
    "@type": "PostalAddress",
    "streetAddress": "1 Example Street",
    "addressLocality": "Leeds",
    "postalCode": "LS1 1AA",
    "addressCountry": "GB"
  },
  "openingHoursSpecification": [{
    "@type": "OpeningHoursSpecification",
    "dayOfWeek": ["Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday", "Thursday", "Friday"],
    "opens": "08:00",
    "closes": "18:00"
  }],
  "sameAs": [
    "https://www.facebook.com/example",
    "https://www.instagram.com/example"
  ]
}

Wrap it in <script type="application/ld+json"> and </script> before you paste it, as Wix expects. Use the most specific type that fits (Plumber, Dentist, Restaurant, LegalService and so on are all subtypes of LocalBusiness). Schema is one small part of local rankings; our guide to SEO for plumbers covers the rest for a typical local service business. If Wix's preset LocalBusiness markup is also on the page, exclude one of them so Google doesn't see two conflicting businesses.

How to edit Wix's preset markup site-wide

To change the markup on every product, blog post, event or dynamic item page at once, edit the preset instead of each page:

  1. In the dashboard, go to SEO & GEO → Tools and settings → SEO Settings.
  2. Select the page type (for example Blog posts or Store products) and click Edit next to Structured data markup. If you don't see it, click Customize defaults first.
  3. Hover over the preset and choose Preview Preset, then Convert to custom markup.
  4. Edit the JSON-LD and use Add Variable to insert dynamic values such as the product name, price, image or URL.
  5. Click Apply and save.

This is also how you handle dynamic pages (CMS collection pages): their structured data lives in the page type's SEO settings, with variables connected to collection fields. Wix notes that a field used as a variable must be connected to an element on the page. You can't customise the default markup of main pages this way; use page-level custom markup for those.

Blog posts also get markup from Wix's AI structured data generator, which new sites have on by default and existing sites can switch on in SEO Settings.

Use the Rich Results Test on one page after every change, and the Search Console reports (left menu, under Shopping or Enhancements) a week or two later to catch problems across templates.

Common Wix schema problems and fixes

  • "Duplicate field" or two Product items: a third-party reviews app adds its own Product markup on top of Wix's. Exclude one of them in SEO Settings.
  • "Invalid JSON" after pasting from a doc: curly quotes or a stray line break. Retype the quotes in a plain-text editor.
  • Markup is valid but no rich result appears: Google never guarantees one. Check that the type still has a rich result, that the page is indexed (Search Console → URL Inspection) and that the data matches what's on the page.
  • "This markup is too long": you've passed 7,000 characters. Remove optional properties or split into two blocks.
  • Reviews markup on your own business: Google ignores self-serving review stars for LocalBusiness and Organization pages, so don't add them.

Where schema fits in Wix SEO

Schema is a finishing touch. Pages earn rich results only after they're indexed and ranking, which comes from content people search for and links pointing to it. Our Wix SEO guide covers the rest of the platform's settings, Webflow vs Wix compares the two if you're still choosing, and our blog post SEO checklist covers the on-page work for Wix Blog posts.

Wix sites have done well with consistent publishing: in Outrank's study of 2,119 sites, 92% of the 48 Wix sites publishing through Outrank's integration grew their Google clicks, the highest share of any CMS in the study. Outrank pushes finished articles straight to the Wix Blog, where Wix's own BlogPosting markup is applied automatically.

FAQ

Does Wix add schema markup automatically?

Yes, for its own apps. Wix Stores product pages get Product markup, Wix Blog posts get BlogPosting, Bookings services get Course, Events get Event and Portfolio projects get image markup. The home page gets LocalBusiness markup once you add your business name and address in Settings → Business Info.

How do I add schema to my Wix website?

Open the page in the Editor, click the ⋯ next to it in the Pages panel and choose SEO basics, then go to the Advanced SEO tab and click Structured data markup → + Add New Markup. Paste your JSON-LD, click Apply and publish. Each page accepts up to five markups of under 7,000 characters each.

How do I validate schema markup on Wix?

Paste the live page URL into Google's Rich Results Test to check eligibility for Google rich results, and into the Schema Markup Validator to check the code against schema.org. After Google recrawls the site, Search Console's Enhancements reports show errors across all your pages.

Is there a Wix schema generator?

Wix generates markup automatically for its apps and has an AI structured data generator for blog posts. For custom types, use a free generator such as Merkle's Schema Markup Generator, then paste the JSON-LD into the page's Advanced SEO tab.

Can I add FAQ schema to Wix?

You can add FAQPage markup as custom JSON-LD, but Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on May 7, 2026, so it won't create dropdowns in search. A clear FAQ section on the page is still useful for readers and for AI answers.

Does schema markup improve Google rankings?

Not directly. Google's John Mueller has said structured data won't make a site rank better. It helps Google understand the page and can earn rich results like product prices, review stars or event dates, which can raise click-through rate at the same ranking position.
