Mediavine has two sets of requirements in 2026. To join full Mediavine, your site must generate at least $5,000 in annual ad revenue, publish original audience-first content, have clean human traffic, be in good standing with Google AdSense and Ad Exchange, and offer a reader experience that suits premium ads. To join Journey by Mediavine, you need 1,000 sessions from tier 1 countries (US, Canada, UK, Australia) within 30 days, original content, and Mediavine's free Grow plugin running for at least 30 days.

The old "50,000 sessions" rule is gone from Mediavine's requirements page, even though its own application guide still cited it in January 2025. Below: each requirement in plain terms, what Journey pays, how much traffic $5,000 a year takes at your RPM, and why applications get turned down.

Key takeaways

  • Full Mediavine has no published session minimum anymore. The bar is $5,000 in annual ad revenue plus a quality review.
  • Journey requires 1,000 sessions from the US, Canada, the UK or Australia in a 30-day period, and Grow must run on your site for 30 days before ads start.
  • Mediavine's ad partners need about four months of domain history before they bid on a new site, so brand-new domains wait regardless of traffic.
  • Journey pays a 70% revenue share; full Mediavine pays 75% under $100,000 a year in ad revenue and up to 90% above $500,000. Both pay Net 65.
  • At a $2.50 page RPM and 1.5 pages per session, $5,000 a year takes about 111,000 sessions a month. Higher-RPM niches need far less.

Journey by Mediavine requirements, explained

Journey by Mediavine is Mediavine's self-supported ad management program for growing sites that don't yet meet the full program's revenue bar. Here is what each requirement means in practice.

1,000 sessions from tier 1 countries in 30 days

This is the number behind all those "site.mediavine.com journey 1000 sessions" searches. Mediavine counts sessions (visits), not page views, and only from tier 1 countries, which its requirements page lists as including the US, Canada, the UK and Australia. A site with 3,000 sessions a month that gets 70% of them from India does not qualify; a site with 1,200 sessions mostly from the US does.

To check, open Google Analytics 4 → Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition, set the date range to the last 30 days, add Country as a secondary dimension, and add up the sessions from those countries.

Run Grow for at least 30 days

Journey's homepage is blunt: "Running Grow is a requirement for Journey ads." You create a free Grow account, install the plugin or script, and leave it running for at least 30 days while Mediavine measures your traffic. Mediavine then contacts you when the site is ready. Install Grow the day you decide to aim for Journey, not the day you hit 1,000 sessions.

About four months of domain history

In its getting-started guide, Journey explains that Mediavine's ad partners require at least four months of domain history before they bid on a new site. You can install Grow before then, and Mediavine recommends doing so.

What Journey pays

Journey publishers receive a 70% revenue share on a Net 65 schedule, and the share rises as sites move up to full Mediavine. Journey is open to publishers worldwide where Mediavine does business, and an English-language site is not required.

One limitation worth knowing: in a 2025 Reddit AMA, Mediavine's CEO explained that Journey runs on separate exchange seats without Google AdX demand and with limited support, so it earns less than full Mediavine (PPC Land summary). It also does not require Google Ad Manager MCM approval, which makes onboarding simpler.

Full Mediavine requirements, explained

Mediavine's requirements page lists five conditions:

  1. At least $5,000 in annual ad revenue. This replaced the 50,000-session minimum. Mediavine does not publish a traffic equivalent, which is why the calculator below exists.
  2. Original, audience-first content. Mediavine's CEO has said the company uses the same third-party content-quality tools as advertisers plus human reviewers, and does not allow monetizing mass-produced, unedited AI content.
  3. Clean, human, brand-safe traffic. No bought traffic, bots or content advertisers avoid.
  4. Good standing with Google AdSense and Ad Exchange. Resolve any policy strikes before applying.
  5. A reader experience that supports premium advertising. A fast, readable layout with room for ads.

When you apply, Mediavine asks for read-only access to your Google Analytics 4 property, and in January 2025 it said it typically responds within 2 to 3 business days. Ad partners run their own reviews after that.

Once accepted, three terms matter:

  • Revenue share. For sites launched after January 1, 2026: 75% under $100,000 a year, 80% from $100,000, 85% from $250,000 and 90% from $500,000 (Mediavine help center).
  • Exclusivity. Mediavine takes full control of your programmatic ads. Anything that needs extra ads.txt lines, such as Taboola, Revcontent or another display network, has to go. Affiliate links and direct sponsorships are fine.
  • Contract and payment. The initial term is 90 days, then month to month with 30 days' notice. Payments are Net 65: January earnings are processed on the first business day of April, with a $100 minimum for most payment methods.

How much traffic is $5,000 a year?

It depends entirely on your RPM. Enter your current page RPM (AdSense shows it under Reports) and your pages per session from Google Analytics.

The default $2.50 page RPM sits inside the $1 to $4.50 range that Google's own AdSense calculator gives most niches with an Americas audience. Mediavine judges more than revenue, so treat this as a math check, not an approval forecast.

The takeaway: on typical AdSense RPMs, $5,000 a year needs six-figure monthly sessions. Sites in higher-paying niches, or Journey sites already earning better RPMs than AdSense, get there with far less traffic. Our AdSense revenue calculator shows Google's RPM estimate for your niche.

Mediavine vs Monumetric vs Raptive: traffic requirements

NetworkEntry requirement (October 2026)Notes
Journey by Mediavine1,000 tier 1 sessions in 30 daysGrow for 30 days, 70% revenue share
Monumetric Propel10,000 to 80,000 monthly page views$99 setup fee, at least 6 ad slots
Raptive25,000 monthly page viewsMajority of traffic from the US, Canada, UK, Australia or New Zealand
Full Mediavine$5,000 annual ad revenueExclusive, 75% to 90% revenue share

Raptive cut its minimum from 100,000 to 25,000 page views in October 2025, so a site with mostly US readers can often apply to Raptive before it reaches Mediavine's revenue bar. For the full ladder of options, see our guide to the best ad networks for bloggers.

How much does Mediavine pay per 1,000 views?

Mediavine does not publish average RPMs, and any single number would mislead you: RPM swings with niche, season and how much of your traffic is from the US. What Mediavine does publish is the split: you keep 75% of ad revenue below $100,000 a year and up to 90% above $500,000.

Two signals from Mediavine itself help set expectations. Its help center says sites with less than 65% US traffic take longer to ramp up, and that sites launching in Q4 ramp up faster than those launching in Q1. And in its 2025 AMA, the CEO said CPMs were down 10% to 20% year over year across the industry.

Why Mediavine and Journey applications get rejected

  • Traffic from the wrong places. Journey counts only tier 1 sessions, and full Mediavine reviews traffic quality as well as volume.
  • A spike instead of a trend. One viral post can push you over a threshold for a month. Reviewers see the pattern in GA4.
  • Unedited AI content. Mediavine screens content with the same tools advertisers use and bans mass-produced, unedited AI articles. AI-assisted writing is allowed; publishing raw output is not.
  • Google policy problems. An AdSense or Ad Exchange strike carries over.
  • A site that cannot carry ads well. Slow pages, intrusive existing ads and broken mobile layouts work against you.
  • Skipping Grow. For Journey, no Grow means no ads, however much traffic you have.

How to reach Mediavine's thresholds faster

Every requirement above except traffic is a one-time fix. Traffic is the long part: going from 1,000 to six-figure monthly sessions means publishing hundreds of useful, well-targeted articles, most of them on long-tail searches you can actually win (our long-tail keyword research guide explains how to find them).

That is what Outrank automates. It finds keywords with low difficulty for your site, writes a long SEO article with images, internal links and an FAQ every day, publishes it to WordPress or your CMS, and builds backlinks through its exchange. Given Mediavine's stance on AI content, review what gets published, or use Outrank's Human Curated Service, where editors fact-check and polish every article. Across sites using Outrank, the median site reached 2.04x its previous Google clicks after 7 months.

FAQ

What are Mediavine's requirements in 2026?

Mediavine requires at least $5,000 in annual ad revenue, original audience-first content, clean human and brand-safe traffic, good standing with Google AdSense and Ad Exchange, and a reader experience that supports premium ads. There is no longer a published session minimum for the main program.

What are the Journey by Mediavine requirements?

Journey requires at least 1,000 sessions from tier 1 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK and Australia, within a 30-day period, plus original content that meets Mediavine's quality and traffic standards. You must also run Mediavine's Grow plugin for at least 30 days before Journey ads can start.

Does Mediavine still require 50,000 sessions?

No. Mediavine's requirements page now lists $5,000 in annual ad revenue instead of a session count. Its own application guide still mentioned 50,000 sessions in January 2025, which is why many articles repeat the old number.

How long does Mediavine approval take?

Mediavine said in January 2025 that it typically responds to applications within 2 to 3 business days, after which ad partners run their own reviews. For Journey, the wait is set by Grow: it must run on your site for at least 30 days, and ad partners need about four months of domain history.

What is the minimum traffic for Mediavine?

Full Mediavine has no published traffic minimum; it asks for $5,000 in annual ad revenue, which at typical AdSense RPMs means tens of thousands to over 100,000 monthly sessions. Journey by Mediavine starts at 1,000 sessions from tier 1 countries in 30 days.

Does Mediavine accept sites outside the US or not in English?

Journey accepts publishers worldwide where Mediavine does business, and an English-language site is not required. What counts toward the 1,000-session bar is traffic from tier 1 countries such as the US, Canada, the UK and Australia, so the audience matters more than where you live.
